Casual Support Workers

Parkerville Children and Youth Care Inc. have multiple opportunities for Casual Support Workers to join our cottages within Geraldton and Carnarvon.

Over a century of service caring and supporting children and young people who have experienced trauma through neglect, family domestic violence and child sexual abuse.

About the Role
We are seeking Casual Support Workers to join our Out of Home Care programme, providing therapeutic care to vulnerable children, helping them heal and grow within a safe and secure environment. It is a requirement of this role that the successful applicant must have received their 1st COVID-19 vaccination prior to 1 December 2021 and be fully vaccinated prior to 31 December 2021. The successful candidate will need to provide evidence of their COVID-19 vaccination status prior to commencing this role.

As a Casual Support Worker, you will work in partnership with Carers in direct care of children in our cottages through a range of activities, including: 

•    Maintaining the physical environment, unit checks, attending to health and medical requirements of children and young people.
•    Providing activities for children or young people in ways that meet their developmental needs; encourage a positive effect on their self-esteem and promote attachment and security,
•    Having the ability to understand and respond appropriately to children and young people who have experienced trauma and abuse when they are displaying challenging and disruptive behaviours.
•    Providing a culturally safe and responsive environment for Aboriginal Children and Young People.

To be successful in this role, you will have: 

•    Previous experience in working with children and young people who have experienced trauma.
•    A knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values and an awareness of the current issues faced by Aboriginal children, young people and their families.
•    Genuinely demonstrate empathy, guidance, respect and patience at all times.
•    Capacity to maintain the home as a warm, safe, secure and comfortable environment in which children may grow and develop.
