On Wednesday night Parkerville Children and Youth Care were announced as winners at the 2018 Community Services Excellence Awards, acknowledging the work done at our George Jones Child Advocacy Centre and our innovative Multiagency Investigation and Support Team (MIST).
We’ve been recognised as a large organisation that has made a positive difference to individuals, families and communities through our collaborative, innovative and creative programmes and services.
The George Jones Child Advocacy Centre
The George Jones Child Advocacy Centre is a safe place for the community’s most vulnerable children and families affected by trauma from abuse, a place where they can disclose their pain and enable their recovery, regardless of the time it takes. Since opening in 2011, Australia’s first and only Child Advocacy Centre has provided services to over 15,700 children, young people and parents.
Multiagency Investigation and Support Team (MIST)
In 2015, Parkerville Children and Youth Care, in partnership with WA Police and Department for Child Protection and Family Support, implemented The Multiagency Investigation and Support Team (MIST). This team comprises an investigation unit, child protection workers, specialist child interviewers, psychological therapeutic services and Child and Family Advocates. The MIST team at the Centre now respond to approximately one third of all child sexual abuse investigations in Metropolitan WA.
The Stan & Jean Perron Child Advocacy Centre
Parkerville Children and Youth Care is taking the lead and building Australia’s second Child Advocacy Centre in the high-need area of Midland, WA. The four-storey, purpose-built Centre will allow for more children, young people and their families to access services in the treatment of trauma from abuse.
The success of this innovative, ground-breaking, and at times polarising venture is clear and a true testament to the hard work, perseverance and commitment of all the staff, management and Board Members at Parkerville Children and Youth Care, as well as our partners in the sector.
Congratulations again to everyone involved.
