Parkerville Children and Youth Care’s Armadale Youth Accommodation Service is a short-term crisis accommodation for young people who are experiencing, or are at risk of, homelessness.
Parkerville Children and Youth Care’s Armadale Youth Accommodation Service (AYAS) is a six-bed short-term crisis accommodation for young people between the ages of 15 and 20 who are experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness. The Armadale Youth Accommodation Service is a six-bed facility that can accommodate three males and three females for a period of up to three months.
During their stay at the Armadale Youth Accommodation Service, young people are provided with a safe environment to live. Our team of Youth Workers assist and encourage young people to make positive changes in their lives through informal counselling, referring them to services that can assist them with any issues they are facing, teaching them independent living skills, inclusive of cooking, cleaning, maintaining gardens and most household chores that many of them don’t know how to do. Our staff also link young people with other services that can assist them with longer-term accommodation.
The Armadale Youth Accommodation Service has a mixture of full-time and part-time residential youth workers, and a part-time drug education support worker. The Drug Education Support Worker runs educational programs about the harms of drugs and alcohol and educates the young people about harm minimisation when using alcohol and drugs. Our drug education worker undertakes therapeutic activities with young people and also takes the young people on low cost recreational outings. All clients at the Armadale Youth Accommodation Service have one worker to assist them with daily/weekly support, although all staff work with all the young people within the service.
The Armadale Youth Accommodation Service also has two transitional units that can accommodate two young people in each. These units are longer-term accommodation for up to 12 months living independently, though they still have support from the staff at AYAS on a weekly to fortnightly basis depending on the young person’s needs.
