About Parkerville Allied Health Services (PAHS)

Some children go through tough experiences that can affect how they think, feel, and connect with others. At PAHS, we understand this and respond by providing trauma-informed and neuroaffirming allied health therapy that recognises each child’s unique experiences and supports them in ways that help them feel safe, respected, and understood.

We support children to build skills in:

  • Communication and building connections
  • Movement and coordination
  • Making friends and social skills
  • Thinking and learning
  • Understanding and regulating emotions
  • Mental wellbeing
  • Everyday life skills tailored to each child
  • Personal safety and protective behaviours

Our Services

We offer therapy and support tailored to each child’s needs. Right now, we provide:

  • Psychology – We help children and young people understand and manage their thoughts, feelings and behaviours, build coping and social skills and recover from experiences of stress or trauma.  We also support mental health concerns.
  • Speech Therapy – We help children communicate clearly and confidently. We support communication, language and social interaction, helping children express themselves and connect with others.  Our neuroaffirming approach is trailed to each child's unique strengths.
  • Occupational Therapy – We help children and young people build confidence and independence in their daily lives by supporting movement, sensory regulation, play and everyday activities like dressing and eating so they can participate at home, school and in their community.
  • Protective Behaviours – Protective Behaviours is a safety and wellbeing program that helps children, young people, and adults learn how to spot unsafe situations, respond confidently, and reach out to trusted people for support. It’s used widely in schools, community services, and therapy settings across Western Australia. The program builds emotional strength, encourages respectful communication and consent, helps prevent harm early, and creates a shared language around safety that families, schools, and professionals can use together.

We are expanding in 2026 to provide a broader range of allied health services.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQS)

These FAQs are designed to help families understand how Parkerville Allied Health Services works and what to expect when accessing support.

Who can access PAHS?

PAHS provides psychology, occupational therapy and speech pathology for children and young people aged 0–18 years.

Do we need to be involved with Parkerville to use PAHS?

No. PAHS is available to families in the community and to children and young people in out-of-home care, where they are not currently accessing support through Parkerville’s Our Way Home program.

Do we need a GP referral?

No. A GP referral is not required. Families can self‑refer, or a professional (such as a teacher, GP, case worker or support worker) can refer on your behalf.

How do we get started?

Once a referral is submitted, our intake team will contact you to:

 - learn more about your child and your priorities

 - discuss service options, locations and likely timeframes

 - talk through funding options, fees and consent

Are PAHS services funded?

No. PAHS services are not funded.

Most families access services through:

 - NDIS funding (self‑managed or plan‑managed), or

 - Private payment

Where Medicare rebates apply, a gap fee is payable.

How much will services cost?

Costs depend on the service provided and the funding pathway used. Fees and payment arrangements are explained clearly during intake before any appointments are confirmed.

Is there a waitlist?

Availability varies by service:

 - Psychology currently has a waitlist, which is open to new referrals

 - Occupational therapy and speech pathology usually have appointments available within the next few weeks

Availability is confirmed during intake and may change based on demand.

What does being on a waitlist mean?

If a service has a waitlist, it means that all current appointment times are booked.

Being on the waitlist:

 - allows PAHS to contact you when an appointment becomes available

 - does not guarantee an appointment by a specific date

 - helps us plan services based on current demand

While on a waitlist, families are encouraged to keep existing supports or remain on other waitlists until an appointment with PAHS is confirmed.

Where are services provided?

 - Speech pathology: Midland

 - Occupational therapy: Midland and Armadale

 - Psychology: Location confirmed during intake

Some outreach or community‑based appointments may be available by arrangement.

What happens at the first appointment?

Families can expect a warm, welcoming and child‑friendly environment. The first appointment focuses on getting to know your child through your insights, understanding strengths and needs, and discussing goals and next steps.

Will PAHS work with my child’s school or other supports?

Yes, with your consent, PAHS can work collaboratively with others involved in your child’s care, such as schools, GPs or case managers, to support consistent and coordinated care.

Should we stay on other waitlists?

Yes. Because availability can change, families are encouraged to remain on any existing waitlists or supports until an appointment with PAHS is confirmed.

Who do I contact if I’m not sure PAHS is right for my child?

If you’re unsure whether PAHS is the right fit, you’re welcome to contact our team to talk things through before submitting a referral.
