Jaimie’s Story – Highlighting the importance of youth supports and services

Jaimie was put in contact with Parkerville’s Young Women’s Program (YWP) due to the threat that homelessness played in her life due to family domestic violence. Jaimie wanted to make sure that her and her child were able to grow up in a healthy and safe space.

The YWP provided the perfect short-term solution for Jaimie, ensuring she did not succumb to the risks of homelessness with a young child. Jaimie was connected with a case manager, Tracy, who was a pillar of support for her during this trying time.

While her son was at school, Tracy provided Jaimie with crucial life skills learnings to help her transition to independent living. Without guidance, living independently can be a daunting task, but Tracy assisted in making this process as seamless as possible for Jaimie.

Jaimie took part in parenting sessions, building stronger connection between mother and son. Jaimie also reconnected with her love of sport, which was a great opportunity to meet people in her new community. Jaimie’s love of sport provides her with a release away from the stresses that life provides.

Jaimie’s story has a happy ending, with her being able to move in with close family, where she is enjoying raising her child and getting back to the life she loves.

“YWP gave me knowledge and experiences that will stay with me for life. I don’t know where I’d be without their support during that time.”
