Support and Counselling Service

Our Support and Counselling Service is a confidential support service that provides healing and support to children aged 4 to 14 years who have experienced homelessness.

Children from families who are experiencing homelessness, or at risk of homelessness, are some of the most vulnerable people in our community and we are there to help those whose families are living in supported accommodation in Perth.

Our Support and Counselling Service (SACS) is a confidential, voluntary and free support service that provides special attention to children aged 4 to 14 years who are experiencing homelessness. We work closely with the whole family, to help bring about the change they need to build a brighter future.

Support and Counselling Service is a confidential support service for children and young people aged four to 14 years old and their families who are currently being supported through Family Supported Accommodation Services such as Indigo Junction, Anglicare WA, Mission Australia, St Barts, Centrecare, Foundation Housing, and more or are participating in a Tenant Support Program or a Public Tenancy Support Service.

Participants must live in the north-eastern suburbs covering areas from Subiaco, Mirrabooka, Midland, Ellenbrook and Joondalup to Yanchep.

The Support and Counselling Service encourages children and their families to reach their full potential and helps them feel confident, happy and safe. Support and Counselling Services Assigned Case Workers will work with you and your family to help you get support. SACS is a voluntary service, cost free and provides outreach support where we will meet clients in community spaces where it suits clients and can provide transport.

Support and Counselling Services are split into three sub-groups: Therapeutic Support, Family Support and Recreational Support. Service activities are individualised and flexible, to meet the changing needs of families. SACS empower families to access appropriate services in the future to prevent and break the cycle of homelessness.

The service provides:

  • individual mentoring for children and young people;
  • support with schooling and education;
  • family group sessions and in-home support;
  • parenting support;
  • facilitation of the Protective Behaviours program;
  • linking families to community support services;
  • making referrals to external services for further supports;
  • recreational support;
  • school holiday programs -including outings such as going to the movies. (cost of activity, transport and snacks are all provided);
  • after-school recreational groups and activities (Once a term for 8 weeks);
  • transport support;
  • health support; and
  • court and justice support.
